A visit from Mrs Everett

We had a visit from Mrs Everett. She taught us lots of new facts about honeybees.

It was easy to spot the queen bee because she had a yellow spot on her back. The colours get changed every year so the bee keepers know how old the queen is.

We got to dress up with the special hats and gloves that bee keepers wear to protect them from being stung.

The bees were busy making honey. The male bees are called Drones they had a pink dot on their backs.
In the winter we need to feed the bees with sugar syrup because there are no flowers for them to feed on.
If a bee stings you it dies.
